  Voices
The voice that we hear for ourselves, is different from the voice people hear.

How do u perceive ur own voice? And how do ppl perceive ur voice?

My voice had always been mistaken as a female voice on the telephone. 90% of the time, when i call a helpdesk, the receptionist will say "How can I help you, Mdm?". I will usually ignore this, and just carry on asking my questions.

Sometimes, they will ask for my name. When i say Desmond, they will go "Huh?" or "Sorry?". When i say Desmond again, they will hear as Jasmine, or whatever girls name.

I so used to this, that if they go "Huh?" the 1st time, I will emphasize that "Yes, i'm a guy, and my name is Desmond. I know my voice sounds like a girl, but yah, i still a guy."

Recently, a lot of my friends mistake my voice for a girl when i called them. Ppl like G, LY, XT, Dah,Aud etc thought that I'm a girl.... haha, its kinda fun for me, when i called my friend, and get them to guess who i am.

The most ultimate case is Javen.... I missed his call, so i called him back.

Me: "Hey, what's up? U called me juz now?"

J: "Err, who are you?"

Me: "Come on, u juz called me juz now... u should be able to guess."

J: after a long while "Oh! You ali right?"

Me: "no no, I'M DESMOND".

J: "come on, dun play a prank on me..... u definitely ali. Is Desmond with u?"

Me: "no no,I'm really Desmond, i'm not playing a joke on u...."

Repeat previous 3 lines for 2-3 turn...

Took quite a while for him to finally believe me.

  HAPPY BDAY!

My bday juz passed yesterday.... nothing special, though its a coincidence tt my 2 bdays (last yr and this yr) fell on FOC trial run. Haha.... and Jo remembered my bdays, and wish me happy bday for both yr too =)

Even though yesterday was uneventful, this yr bday has been very memorable. Why?

Becos of Ruldoph!

She knows one of my wish is to have a surprise party. And so she took great pains to try to give me a surprise celebration.

Thanks Sherry, and SY! It was really a surprise! I thought that Ruldoph was really helping her cousin to collect something at Cafe Cartel... When i saw Sherry, my 1st thought is "EH? such a coincidence to see u!"

Ruldoph not only gave me a surprise celebration, and also gave me a treat at SAFRA Tampines international buffet. Its been a long time since I have such a satisfying meal... not because of the quality of the food (the food is not bad), but the variety of food. There were oysters, mussels, sushi, teppayaki, bbq, deserts, ice-cream, orange juice, etc etc.... ALL FREE FLOW!

And the teppayaki and bbq were done by the chefs. So what u do is to pick the food u want to bbq, and pass it to the chef. And they will bbq for u, and serve u the food! (Sounds like our DnD eh?!) It felt good.... hopefully, the DnD will provide the ppl that kind of feeling too!

Hee.... and Ruldoph bought me a couple watch.... darn, i wanted to gave her that for our anniversary. It seems like we think too alike at times.... Luckily i haven't buy the watch 1st or else it will be a waste of money.

This year, quite a no of ppl remembered my bday, and sms me.... thanks to everyone! Appreciate that u remembered my bday!

  Difference in opinion

1st) Everyone has their own opinions.

2nd) Everyone thinks that they are right.

3rd) Everyone are not able to see the whole picture.

And I'm one of the everyone. Who thinks too highly of myself, and assumed that I'm right, not knowing that I do not know the big picture.

And I wont be able to know the big picture, cos its impossible to talk to everyone.

Its impt for me to keep in mind that three points.....

  Newpaper, 12th June

Only 11, but he can... cycle 40km, run 10km, swim 3km.

This article is abt a 11 yr old boy who's training for triathlons.

Of course, for a boy this young, his accomplishment is special.

But what strike me most are the words of his mother.

"We realised early on that Travis is an average student when it comes to studies.
So we decided to expose him to all kinds of sports, such as soccer, swimming and cycling, so that he has something to fall back on.

He can pursue an alternative career path in sports if he wants to. He could become a sports coach."

Almost, if not all parents want their children to be successful.

But in Singapore, its rare that parents actually realised their limited potential of their children in academic area.

It seems that a lot of parents only want their children to be study hard and get good grades. Little do they know that really, not all children can excel in studies.

Its heartening to know that there are parents out there who allow their children to take the alternative route.

  Growing up

I thought i have grown up already.

I thought that i have already matured and know how to deal with most situations in an appropriate manner. I know how to think rationally and behave in a practical manner.

When my family and relatives had kept telling that i'm a mature kid, after a while, i accepted this as the truth.

Though i realised that i still have a long way to go before i will consider myself as fully grown up.

And i realised that i won't be fully grown up until the day i died.

True, i might be able to handle what life throws at me now, becos i used to this status quo.

But what if life no longer throws a fast ball, but throws a curved ball at me? Will i be able to adapt?

Will i be able to accept the unfairness of working life?

Will i be able to accept the deterioration of my body at old age?

Dunno... no answers to those questions.

Though all i need to know is that i will need to learn to adapt to everything. Including sudden changes.

And only then, may i consider myself as fully matured.

And it helps to have someone along to help you.
  Comic thoughts 2

With reference to the previous entry-

“他本身追求的,并非无敌,也不渴望震动江湖。不过身于这个时代,就必须要每天变得更强。”

“心地善良有时候也无法保护他人,
正义的力量有时候也发挥不了正义。”

有时候,有心是没有用的。有心,但没有实现梦想的能力,是不足够的。
所以我们得尽力增强我们的能力,尽力使我们更有能力去实现梦想。

但是我们得记得我们本来的目的,而不是纯粹地变强。
  Thoughts for the week

Had thoughts abt a few topic that i wanted to blog abt... but never really gotten to sit down and blog. So here i go...

Comics

Did i ever mentioned that i love comics? Some ppl are of the impression that comics are for kids only, and their content are immature. I totally disagree. Of course there are comics out there which has immature content, but there are tons of comics whose content is mature and thought-provoking. I see no difference between novels and comics; both are written/drawn by adults. And the comic authors can and do have interesting topics to talk abt. And since i read more comics than novels (=P),i have more quotes from comics (Not unlike movie and tv junkie having more quotes from movies and tv)

Recently read a comic abt how a martial artist put in his soul and effort in trying to save 宋朝.

"天下大勢將去,如何能扭轉乾坤?
盡其在我!
在這天下一面倒的情形,我便只有一個人﹐盡傾一身肝膽--力
转乾坤!"

Wah.... such patrioticism... Will i do something if i know my efforts are most prob going down to drain?

suddenly no time to blog more... shall continue later...

  A soldier's thoughts

Almost impossible odds.

And he kept striving forward.

Almost no comrades.

And he kept going forward.

How many times have he felt like giving up? Lay down for the final rest. To rest in peace.

He won't. He couldn't.

His sense of duty wont let him. He couldn't forsake his sense of responsbility.

And he plough on.

He would do whatever he can.

Almost impossible odds.

It doesn't matter.

"Only when you believe, can there be miracles. And when there are miracles, anything can happen"
  Non-fairytale

Watched Shrek 2 with Ruldoph on mon. ITS A VERY GOOD SHOW! hahahaha.... i was laughing like mad in the cinema. It has parody which the adults will appreciate, and also enough funny scenes to keep the children laughing; definitely a show that is for all ages.

Both Shrek and Shrek 2 are non-fairytales. The things described in the story are exactly opp of what a fairytale would be like. The hero is an big, green ogre. The sidekick is a talkative, irritating donkey, instead of a white mare. The princess turned ugly in the end.

Even though the presentation is against the norm of fairytales, I feel that both movies were done in the spirit of fairytales; both transmit important values to the viewers. I REALLY REALLY love the ending of Shrek 1; it teaches ppl not to be obssessed with external beauty.

If i were to choose between traditional fairytales and Shrek as bedtime stories for my future kids, I will definitely choose Shrek.
